Accountant: Management Reporting

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing full management accounts, results presentations and Board files to facilitate decision making at Board level.
They will report directly to the Finance Manager and will be part of a structured Finance team.
We're a fully in-office team. This role is based at our Support Centre in Kuils River, Cape Town.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management Reporting
- Monthly preparation of the Management Income Statement, including the high level review of the variances to budgets to identify issues or missing accruals
- Preparation of monthly Summarised IS, Balance Sheet and Cashflow as well as related notes
- Monthly preparation of key Financial statistics, including B/S ratio’s, cashflow as % of OP, RONA and Creditors days
- Collation of all relevant departmental statistics for the preparation of the: Financial dashboard, KPI dashboard, Management meeting presentation
- Preparation of 1st draft of the written report to Management
- Preparation and maintenance of the monthly reporting calendar and timely communication of the calendar and relevant deadlines, taking into account preparation time, month end dates and other issues that may affect the monthly reporting
- Dealing with queries on the accounts raised by Management through own investigations or obtaining commentary from departments
- Consistent review of processes followed in preparing the Monthly Management Accounts to ensure it is efficient and effective is all aspects
- Ensuring Management Files are prepared and distributed to the relevant Directors
- Dealing with ad-hoc reporting queries and analysis as required by line manager and Financial Director
Project Management
- Provide direction on finance projects
- Provide cross-functional project management support for all Ad-hoc projects from within the business
- Assist in identifying efficiencies in processes within Finance and formulating tools and/or plans to action the efficiencies
- All Finance-owned projects:
- Formulation of project plans.
- Provide clear communication on objectives, milestones and progress made.
- Deal with obstacles or changes effectively.
- Prioritisation of projects and tasks
Forecasting
- Preparation of monthly Rolling Forecasts, by:
- Obtaining sales forecasts from Operations and Planning
- Converting the sales forecasts into margin forecasts, taking into account current margin trends and inputs from Business Partners
- Reviewing and preparing the forecasted operating costs, with input from amongst others Operations, Supply Chain and Marketing
- Performing analysis between current and prior forecasts to highlight trends
- Prepare, maintain and submit a forecast timetable to ensure that enough review time is given to line manager and Financial Director for review and comments
- On a quarterly basis prepare a Forecast Income Statement and Balance Sheet for submission to Pepkor
- Ensure that processes are in place to deal with ad hoc forecasting requests as well as scenario planning
Stakeholder Management
- Ensure that good relations are built and managed with strong focus on customer relations and building networks.
General Accountant Duties
- Accurate verification and authorization of bank and EFT payments in a timely manner
- Ad hoc projects as required by Finance
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Essential:
- Completed article traineeship
- 3-5 years relevant experience at accountant level
Preferred:
- Experience with retail and listed clients
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Essential:
- B Com or equivalent finance qualification (Diploma/ Degree)
Preferred:
- B Com Accounting
- Completed articles
- CIMA certification

- Excellent knowledge of financial report writing and commentary
- Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of financial and management accounts reporting requirements
